EWVwallhangingWe're back in full swing over in the Wendy Vecchi yahoo group after a holiday hiatus. Our wonderful host Lori gave us 2 weeks for this challenge, which is based on Tag #2 from Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of Christmas.

I used canvas for my butterflies (echoing Tim's canvas reindeer).

My butterflies are Sizzix dies cut out of canvas that's been mounted to grungeboard.  I colored them with different distress stains and then stamped some of Wendy's Studio 490 background stamps on them in walnut stain distress ink.

My base pieces are the Sizzix Cabinet Card die. I covered grungepaper with kraft resist before diecutting, then cut the rounded tops off the cuts so they'd be uniform.

Lori had a great tip about making your own patterned resist paper by flipping over Tim's kraft resist paper and using your own stamps to customize the plain side.  I did this with two of Wendy's stamps (script and grid).  Heat embossed with clear powder and voila… customized kraft resist.

I used lots of metal, mostly Tim's, and some funky elasticized ribbon which holds it all together pretty nicely.  My Crop-o-Dile was the source of the XL eyelets. I stamped a few of Wendy's sentimets on manila scraps I had colored the same way as the base pieces, with white picket fence distress stain and a few blue and brown stains.
