Brenda Brown

Brenda lives in Camberley, Surrey, England and we’ve been longtime blogging pals. She runs the A Vintage Journey challenge blog, as well, which is a wonderful source of inspiration. I hope someday we will meet.

Brenda Brown

Brenda has chosen a gorgeous journal as her project for today. In her own words, “This has to be my most favourite project this year as I was asked by the lovely Eileen Hull to share some of the journals I had been making for an upcoming ebook. This particular one just evolved as I was making it and soon became a firm favourite with me and others. I had used several techniques in adding the layers and putting it together and have now taught it twice in workshops in the UK. I had intended using this as record of my garden this year but a broken ankle has prevented me from getting out there very much but I intend to continue with it next year and take photographs and record the seasonal changes.

Isn’t the layering and crackled texture amazing? Be sure to visit Brenda’s blog for more information.

Jenny Marples

Jenny live in Staffordshire (United Kingdom) and we had the fun of meeting twice this year. The first time was when she traveled to California in January for the Craft & Hobby Association tradeshow (now the Association for Creative Industries.) The second was when I traveled to the U.K. to attend workshops in Covington in June. As happens with many of these formed-in-blogland-friendship, we felt thick as thieves when meeting in person.

Jenny Marples

Jenny has chosen this richly textured canvas as one of her favorite posts. Jenny says, “”I love this canvas because it marked a huge change in my attitude to adding extra layers to a background. Prior to this I had an inbuilt fear the next layer could ruin what had already been achieved, potentially leading to a complete do-over. 12 layers in on this one and I was confident that even though many of the lowest ones had been covered in the main, they were still having a positive impact on the end results, offering mere glimpses of colour under the lightest and most visible shades. On top of this background the combination of man-made textures with organic ones added to the overall drama, with just a subtle hint of stamping emphasising the high horizon design. All in all it’s now something I’m really proud of and has become a favourite project.””
