Two Friends’ Favorite Blog Posts (#4)

Welcome to installment #4 of my series called Two Friends’ Favorite Blog Posts. You can see the the earlier posts here:  TFFBP#1: August and TFFBP#2: September  and TFFBP#3: October. I’ve asked these artists friends to identify one of their favorite posts of all time. A daunting call for long-time bloggers who each have been creating for years.

Astrid Maclean

Astrid lives in Scotland and has been featured here a few times earlier in my Tuesday’s Tutorials series. Her projects always have great attention to detail and I enjoy reading her blog. I hope one day we can meet in person.

Astrid Maclean

Astrid says, “Well, first of all, I have become addicted to Midori size notebooks, so this is what this is. They are inserts for a Midori Travelers Journal, and I love putting these together.  This one is going to be used for handwriting practice, as it has squared paper inside. Second up, are Tim Holtz Oxide Inks – the more I use them, the more I love them! And last but not least, stencils and sprays. I used these latter two for this cover.” You’ll find a full tutorial on this gorgeous journal on Astrid’s blog

Alison AKA “Butterfly”

Alison makes such gorgeous projects and always includes lots of photos to help you understand the process.  Though she lives near London, her work brings her to New York often and we have enjoyed some fun times together here.

Alison AKA Butterfly of Words & Pictures

In her words, “I found it really hard to choose one favourite blog post. There are so many projects which reflect moments of discovery or realisation along the journey. In the end, I’ve gone with Remember, Remember – a large reverse canvas that feels like a good example of how my creative process often works. I’ll get an idea and then I have to just keep playing until that idea becomes a reality. The spark here was the thought of using tiny lights to create fireworks in the night sky… and then I had to find a way to make it happen. And of course it does have lots of my favourite things – the ingredients which turn up again and again for me – blues and browns, darkness and light, and of course plenty of crackle!”

The lighting of this was tricky. You can read the whole story about it and see lots of additional photos over on Alison’s blog.
