Hello and welcome to our 3rd challenge from The Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. We were all amazed by the creative entries for Challenge #2 — thank you so much — winners will be announced on Tuesday! This third challenge focuses on Faux Tea Roses (pg 65 of Tim’s book). You’ll find all the information for Challenge #3 ~ Faux Tea Roses ~ on Linda’s CC3C blog. I made a super huge tag that I think I’ll mount on a skinny canvas.
I planned to emboss and layer a number of textures on one giant tag, but then I liked the large one itself as is and didn’t want to cover it up.
After diecutting my flowers and embossing them with different Sizzix Texture Fades,I colored them with several colors of PaperArtsy’s Treasure Gold.
I colored the tag with a combination of Distress Stains and Distress Inks. I added some of Tim’s Remnant Rubs and used the Tiny Attacher to staple the greenery on, since I knew the flowers would hide the staples. Not sure if you can see clearly but right above the stapler one of the flowers is turned upside down and you can see I’ve attached a paper punch circle to the base. I find this to be the easiest way to hold the flowers together… after assembling them, I put a dab of hot glue onto a paper circle and then push the assembled flower right into the hot glue. This also helps them sit flat on the project.
I dry embossed the delicate phrase with about half a dozen pieces of printed paper scraps behind it. This helps keep it from tearing as all those scraps absorb some of the embossing pressure.
I used my jet black archival ink pad directly on top of some of the raised areas.
I also added one of Tim’s idealogy metal arrows, as it complemented the Remnant Rub arrows up above. Fabric paint fills in the flower centers, which I attached with hot glue.
