2012KathrynWheelOctober
Here's a new page for my version of Kate Crane's calendar project. I'm also joining Linda Ledbetter's StudioL3 challenge and the current challenges at Simon Says Stamp and Show and Paper Issues. Linda's challenge is based on Tim Holtz's book, the Compendium of Curiosities Volume 2, and this week the focus is on Distress Markers.  I used the second of the two techniques Tim outlines on page 50 for this page.

The focus on my page is the new leaf stamps designed by Mario Rossi III.  I love the blueprint measurements he's included around them…. so unique! I've used the Sizzix Word Play and Hexagon dies, and dry embossed the letters for added texture.

The markers are reactive to water and you can really do some awesome coloring with them. I finished the page up with some favorite stamps and stencils.

And here's a peek at the finished September:

Ten down, two to go!  Thanks for visiting.

I hope you have a great week.

I find the same problem with regular papers, Helen, no matter how I pre-treat them. I’ve only found two kinds of paper that won’t buckle: Ranger’s Manila card stock and regular old watercolor paper. This calendar is actually an XL watercolor pad. Thanks for your kind words… always appreciated!

  15. Helen Tilbury on October 2, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Wow awesome Marjie!! I would love to be with you and have you explain everything to me. I don’t own the same kind of stash as you – would have no idea what to do with those markers – I presume you colour in all over and then you wipe with a sponge dipped in water. I want to achieve some watercolour effects but my paper is buckling so much – please let me know if you know the best thing to overcome that (in other words what to use to avoid that happening). Currently I am using my mists to achieve the effect but spraying my paper with water first. I like the effect but keeping the paper flat is impossible. I adhere the entire sheet to another sheet behind it which helps quite a bit but not entirely.

Oh Marjie, your October page is fabulous, I love Mario III’s stamps (Only problem is I want them all!) and it is only when I think of them that I get an impression of the size of your calendar pages – wow. The autumnal colours are beautiful and blended so well. The leaves are stunning and love that faux stitching around each section – the whole thing is beautiful. Love September blues too. Love your calendar pages! I haven’t gotten bit yet by the journaling bug, but this looks like a great way to get started. I just don’t get making art pages that are hidden between the covers of a book.
