I made this canvas using many of my favorite products…. paints, inks, stencils, and of course the Tattered Florals die by Tim Holtz. This was initially a step X step for Frilly and Funkie, demonstrating some of the ways to use the die.I started by cutting the flowers from basic black card stock and embossing them using Tim’s Sizzix Texture Fades:
Next I colored some using a combination of Perfect Pearls Mists. The technique is from the Compendium of Curiosities, Vol 2….Tim Holtz’s fab technique book. The rest I left black:
I neglected to mention that I’d adhered a piece of Clearly for Art modeling film by Wendy Vecchi to the back of some of the black cardstock before diecutting. You can heat this material and then while it’s still warm, curl the edges and it will retain the shape. I’ve heard some people are able to achieve this with heavy packaging material, too. It’s very effective for flower petals.
You can use a pencil or paintbrush to roll the warmed petals. A closer look at the ‘held’ shapes:
I stacked the colored flowers over plain black flowers, using brads, buttons and punched black circles for variety. Some are glued flat and some are raised up with foam tape and 3D glue dots. I like having the dimensional effect on my canvas. Here’s what I had to play with when I was ready to place them on my canvas:
