Supplies for Let’s Make a Mini Art Journal!

Let's Make a Mini Art Journal!

Here's the Short List:  Paper, something to color your paper, something to decorate your paper, something to adhere your paper.

The long list follows, but if you know me, you know I strongly encourage you to substitute supplies with whatever you already own.

This list will be emailed as a PDF with your confirmation of purchase.  My 5-day Challenge called Let's Make a Mini Art Journal begins on Monday, August 30. Join us here!

Let's Make a Mini Art Journal with Marjie Kemper

Supplies (Please feel free to make substitutions for all except #1 and #2):

  1. Your imagination.
  2. A willingness to play and have fun.
  3. Paper – my favorites are Mixed Media  HeavyStock or Bristol Vellum.  You’ll want smooth paper that is a bit heavy and that will take ink easily (no ridges or textures).  You need six sheets of 8X10 paper for this mini journal, but I recommend you have a few extra sheets on hand.  Please also have one piece of black paper available and if possible, a small piece of plain white tissue paper (like that used in gift wrapping.)
  4. Ink Pads –  I use a lot of colorful Distress Ink Pads and a black Archival Ink Pad. You can also use Distress Oxide Inks or any other ink pads you prefer.
  5. Adhesives — I like a wet and a dry adhesive so I use Matte Medium or Distress Collage Medium (whichever is closer to me on my table) as well as a double-sided tape.
  6. Mark Makers — Include words, images and patterns. Consider stamps, stencils, words + images cut from magazines, your own drawing/doodle/handwriting, etc.  People often ask for a list of every stamp I use. Because I use so many designs and have had many of them for 20+ years, it is difficult to identify each one. To the best of my ability, I’ve listed stamp names and identifying aspects (manufacturer or ID number) below.
  7. Embellishments — Go wild!  Ideas include fibers, scraps of paper, die-cuts, paper punches, metal accents, washi-tape, rub-ons, stickers, buttons, etc.  I like Tim Holtz’s Quote Chips,  Remnant Rubs, and pretty much anything from his Idea-ology line.
  8. Tools – Paper Trimmer, Scissors, Ink Blending Tool with Foam Applicators, Heat It tool, Mini Mister, needle or awl, stapler or Tiny Attacher, black pen or marker
  9. Die-cutting Tools (again, optional!):  Sizzix Diecutting Machine, Feathered Friends Thinlits 664433 die set, Wildflower Stems #2 Thinlits 664164 die set,  Wafer Thin Magnetic Die Platform
  10. Misc – Glass Mat or Craft Sheet or other non-stick work surface, Cosmetic Sponges, Deli Paper or wax paper, toothpicks, about 12” of Waxed Linen Thread or any other fiber you can use to make tight knots, and about 36” of ribbon to use as a closure to tie your book

Stamps Used: (Use whatever YOU have or cut words, images, etc. from magazines – this is just for those who want to know what I used)
