Selective Use of Embossing Folders – Christmas in June

KemperSanta07072013

Bet you weren’t expecting to see Santa greet you on this 23rd day of June!  I’ve inked up the Jolly Santa stamp from Darkroom Door and used the Sizzix Snow Flurries texture fade to create this wintery tag.  I cut the tag from white cardstock using the Sizzix Tag & Bookplates die.  Next I added texture to the tag with the Snow Flurries texture fade, running it through my Vagabond twice to cover the entire tag.

Here’s where the ‘selective use’ comes in… after I stamped the Jolly Santa, I added just some of the Snow Flurries around the edges by carefully positioning the stamped image in the Texture Fade, one snowflake at a time.  Here I’m getting just the top right corner.

Here’s  the reverse side ~ I ended up with Snow Flurries just around the Santa image, and not on top of him.

Layers of Distress Inks build up the background.

I stamped Santa a second time and cut him out after using Distress Markers (especially Picket Fence) to color him and his bag. He’s raised up on foam tape, and I used some twine and plastic snowflake bits to finish off the tag.

Thanks for the visit!

  1. Christmas any time of the year is fine with me 🙂 Love the idea of just using the texture fade embossing on part of the paper. I’ll try that! I really, really, really love the use of color and the way you layered color on Santa!!!! Gorgeous! Santa should bring you lots of gifts this year 🙂 — Mary Elizabeth

  15. Well, yes, Santa was definitely a surprise in my mailbox today! But, what a fun surprise! Love the blues, too. What I really think is creative, however, is the double-layer tag goodness. The twine and the “selective” embossing techniques are just awesome! Way to go!

Yep, too early indeed but as the background & blues & embossing is so gorgeous….. Santa can join in just this once. Lol… Like the way you wrapped (excuse unintended pun) black cord around & put at an angle. Wow to the blues! :))

  23. This is a great tag…and I love that you used blue instead of red, red, red. The snowflakes frame the image so nicely…and great dimension, too. Fun.

  24. Great ideas here Marjie. Thanks so much for the tutorial. The craft TV in the UK is full of Christmas stuff at the moment but as we haven’t had much of a summer yet it feels way to early. Hugs, Jenny x
