Hello! We have a new challenge this week at Our Creative Corner hosted by the talented Vicki Burdick, and Simon Says Stamp and Show has a travel theme. I decided to combine the two for today's project. Here's Vicki's color prompt:
At first I had a hard time imagining what I would do with just those three colors, but then I realized I wasn't limited to them. I had to use all of them but could also use white or vanilla. Here's what I did with it:
I started with a bright white oversized (8 and 1/2 X 4 and 1/4) tag. I pulled out my stash of travel themed stuff and my binders of Tim Holtz stamps since (a) gotta love him, and (b) he has a lot of journey-related stuff!
First things first, I had to tone down that bright white tag. I inked it with a combo of Antique Linen, Old Paper, and Frayed Burlap distress inks. I chose an All Night Media map stamp and inked it with grey Antiquities pigment ink. I haven't reached for grey ink in awhile – I think that pad must be 6 years old – so I have to give them credit for a quality product because it was totally thick and wet.
Next I stamped over the map layer with lots of Tim stamps in grey, red, and black. I added a B&W train image from my collage stash and a few stickers from 7 Gypsies and October Afternoon. I've distressed the edges of the train card and inked it lightly with Brushed Corduroy.
The large tag on the right with the plane is actually covering a major stamping gaffe. When that happened I had put too much time in to start over. I decided the cover-up would work if I made it look intentional, and then added several additional ‘off the edge' parts to other areas. I popped up the tiny tag and car on foam tape, and ran a thin meshy ribbon across the top. Little bits of brads and metal for added texture.
I hope you like it. I'm pleased with the way it came out. Please join us this week at Our Creative Corner… check out what all the design team members have made and then jump right in… all are welcome!
