On my Way to CHA

I’m hopping on a plane tomorrow to go to the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show in Anaheim.  I’m super excited to be doing this as it’s something I’ve been working toward while building my creative business.  After becoming a Designer Member last year, I knew attending the show would be the next step, and here it is, at last!

Besides attending business-related workshops, I will be walking the show floor and seeing what new releases are coming in the industry. I can’t wait to see friends I’ve made over the last three years while blogging, teaching and taking classes.  I’m also really looking forward to meeting several people I know only through Blogland, as this will be the first time we meet in person.  I’m even going a few days early to take classes Prima is putting on for two full days prior to the show… as you can guess being away from home for a week requires adjustments on the whole family’s part… did I mention I’m excited?

The art accompanying today’s post is an 8″ X 10″ banner I made for the Fabric Arts Council (a section of the Craft & Hobby Association), which will be included in a display called “Banners of Hope” at the tradeshow.  I think there will be about 40 banners in all.  After the event, the banners will be donated to Charity Wings, and will travel around the country and be displayed in hospitals, shelters, and charity locations that greet members of the public in times of challenge.

We were meant to make the banners inspirational and appropriate for children and adults who may be facing any kind of life challenge. I made mine on canvas provided by the Fabric Arts Council, with loads of paints and stencils, and some of Tim Holtz (Sizzix) dies.  The top is folded over and sewn down to allow for display on a rod.

Thanks so much for visiting.  I have a few posts scheduled while I’m away, and then I will no doubt have quite a few pics to share from the show.

Oh, Marjie…this is just so exciting. You have worked so hard to reach this place in your journey. I’m proud of you! And your banner is simply beautiful. The green speaks of springtime, new life, hope, growth…all things that someone facing a critical illness needs to be reminded of. The little diamonds scattered throughout make me think of stars….Such fabulous colors and images…and then that wonderful sentiment. Love, love, love it!
