Mixed Media Altered Clipboard (Marjie Kemper)

I was so flattered when asked to be a Guest Designer at Frilly and Funkie today! I will always have a special fondness for Linda Coughlin AKA The Funkie Junkie as she put me on my first design team back in 2011 when she was the Owner of Our Creative Corner, and I became a member of the F&F Design Team in 2012.  Linda's shop, The Funkie Junkie Boutique, has grown so much that she's at this moment moving into a commercial space. I'm so happy for her and I will definitely vouch for her fast shipping and great customer service.  On a Six Degrees of Separation note, Linda's shop is one of the two sponsors of the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge Blog, of which I am a part.

Now on to the project… I've created this clipboard for their “Words, Words, Words” challenge, which runs through Tuesday, May 20.  You need only to keep a single word as your focus, and no stamped sentiments are allowed this time.

Mixed Media Altered Clipboard 2 (Marjie Kemper)

I started with a with an 8.5″ X 11″ wood clipboard and adhered some of Tim Holtz's Honeycomb Frameworks dies with matte medium.

Mixed Media Altered Clipboard 3 (Marjie Kemper)

After applying some PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints, I started layering lots of stencils (StencilGirl, Tim Holtz, Dyan Reaveley, Balzer Designs, and Ronda Palazzari.)

Mixed Media Altered Clipboard 4 (Marjie Kemper)

After some stamping, I stapled paper letter stencils from the hardware store together to spell out my word for the Frilly & Funkie challenge.

Mixed Media Altered Clipboard 5 (Marjie Kemper)

Black paint applied with makeup sponges made this word pop.

Next I rooted through my metals box – a treasure trove – and ombined some of Finnabair's Prima embellishments to spruce up the clip on my clipboard.

I used pop sticks to prop the clip open so the metal embellishments would dry flat on the clip.

I really like the way this pops.  When I teach I always bring a clipboard to hold my notes/plans, and now I've have a particularly fun one to carry.  I hope you'll visit Frilly & Funkie and join in the Words, Words, Words challenge this week.  It's open till Tuesday, May 20.

On a serious note, PLEASE stop back tomorrow to check out A Call to Art Auction. Over 25 artists have donated pieces to the auction as we try to make a difference for girlsrising.com.  Time is short as the auction begins Wednesday, May 15th and ends Friday, May 17th.

Thanks for the visit!  If we're not already connected, please sign up for my newsletter or follow me on Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, or Twitter.

Love this project! In fact, many of your projects inspire me. I will have to save this idea for the next CC3 Challenge. And thank you for the #BringOurGirlsHome auction information. I have posted it on my Facebook Page and told all of my friends about it. This is too important of an issue to let it be forgotten.

Amazing makeover of a clipboard – you are making my finger twitch to alter one as it has been a couple of years since I last did so.
This is so perfect for you to carry to your workshops – maybe even teach a workshop to create such a clipboard!

What a glorious layered creation, Marjie – beautiful colours! No need to sell me on the Funkie Junkie Boutique… I love shopping there. I think it’s a good thing for my credit cards that I don’t live your side of the Atlantic! Congrats on another fabulous guest spot.

What a great project Marjie (wow, you are a busy girl this week!). Fantastic step by step also, love this clipboard and yes, it will be so much fun to take to your next workshop! In fact making one of these could be a workshop in itself…. Oh and I couldn’t agree more about Linda and her customer service!!

What a thrill to have you joining us this time Marjie! I love the vibrancy of your stencilled clipboard and love the ideas of using letters from the hardware store and pop sticks as a support for the drying clip. Jenny x
