Jumbo “Brothers” Collage Tag

Hi, friends. I’m back today with a jumbo “Brothers” collage tag using another Etcetera tag as my base.  These are the sturdy extra large chipboard tags Tim Holtz released in January.  This one is a bit smaller than the Nelson Mandela collage tag I made in March.

Today’s tag measures 6 and 1/2″ by 12″.  Here’s how it came together:

Initial Layers

I began by coating the tag with gesso.  Once it was dry, I attached a piece of torn scrap paper and and added some embossing paste through a stencil. You can see a bit of my OttLite showing in this photo. It allows me to work even late at night, with true color accuracy.

Painting comes next.  I like to use a dry brush and apply a lot of layers.  I’ve basically covered up that paper after all, but it was a good start.

Collage materials

I love using up bits from my stash and that long strip on the left is no exception.  It’s a remnant from a transparency.

Mixing Old & New

These are a mix of oldies-but-goodies and new products released at the last trade show.  The fellows and words are from Tim Holtz.

I painted the letters the same way as the board. Notice the little bit of washi tape?  I find it pleasing to always ‘anchor’ people onto something, rather than have their feet appear to be floating.

Here’s a close-up of the two gents.  They remind me a tiny tad of my own two, who are now not so little at all.

There you have it. I hope you found this helpful.
