Art journal spread - Love Unlocks Doors and Opens Windows (Marjie Kemper)

Lately I've been playing a lot with doors and windows.  The repeating window in this spread is a stamp from Darkroom Door and the tall flowers on the right are from Donna Downey. I've used paints, archival inks, and Dylusions Ink Sprays for the color, along with a white Posca paint pen.

Art journal details - Love spread

Lots of stencils (of course!), a few ‘mop up' tags added to the page, and some old chipboard letters painted black. The round mandala stencil highlighted in white is a new one from Rebekah Meier.

I like this kind of journaling as I'm a fan of messy and grungy.  I also like to try different things, and sometimes (but rarely) I do have pages with clean lines.  My friend Carolyn Dube had a great post last week about not getting caught up in trying to be perfect – it's definitely worth a read.  Your journal is for YOU and anything goes!

I appreciate your visiting my blog. If you're new here, please keep in touch however you like: newsletterFacebook, Pinterest, Instagram, BlogLovin'YouTube, or Twitter.

Love this! When I was in high school, I was on the yearbook staff and we had to learn how to develop our own photos in the dark room. That room was magical, with the red light and the trays of solution where images magically appeared…this makes me think of that experience. And it’s cool that when you are “in the dark” love will open doors and windows.

Oh, my word – how you create depth and layers within one colour tone is just amazing, Marjie! I adore the window, and that fab embedded tag, and the beautiful DD poppies… and the use of stencils throughout is just brilliant. Great to have you play along at The Artistic Stamper.

Love all those windows, Marjie. Since your color is a random combination of paints, inks and sprays, it is likely you will never be able to duplicate it….and it such a lovely color! Just love it! I also really like to see tags included in larger art projects. Lastly, I love the motivational quote. You are Jessica were on the same page today!

As always, you use of color caught my eye on my blog reader. Love red!!! But it was the details that pulled me in and kept me looking. I absolutely adore the stencil you used under the word “love”. All those curves provide the perfect counterpoint to the right angles of those marvelous window stamps. And I really like the white dots. Nice balance on these journal pages. Such fabulous expression of your amazing creativity Marjie! — Mary Elizabeth
