Compendium of Curiosities 3, Challenge #31

Welcome to the latest challenge celebrating Tim Holtz’s book, the Compendium of Curiosities, Volume 3.  Our new challenge is to use the Layering Stencils with a Paint Resist. The technique is found on page 47. If you still need a copy, you can get an autographed copy from Tim right here.

Our sponsor this week is Inspiration Emporium, and a random winner will receive a $50 shopping spree on their online store. There are also prizes donated by Tim and Mario for the Curiosity Crew’s favorite project. You’ll find the Rules and FAQs at Linda’s site… please take a moment to read these so you are definitely in the running for the prizes.

Marjie Kemper art journal 06202015

I worked in a small Strathmore journal this time. The pages are 5.5 wide by 8″ high, so this is the size of a normal piece of copy paper, turned sidewise.  I used Distress Stain Sprays and Distress Inks along with lots of stencils and stamps.

The lady is a Lynn Perrella stamp from Paper Artsy, and the bold words are from a stencil Carolyn Dube designed for StencilGirl Products.

Marjie, your journal pages are bright and beautiful and I love your lady. The paint resist technique really stands out on your background. The trip to Costa Rica sounds very exciting but unfortunately coincides with a family trip to Europe many years in the planning. I look forward to following your travels from afar.

  6. Stefania on July 2, 2015 at 3:49 pm

It would be too good to travel with you to Costa Rica, I wish I could!
The page is beautiful, the colors and the technique embrace wonderfully!

  7. Sara Emily Barker on July 1, 2015 at 12:18 pm

PS, I need to do some math to see how much I would have to save a day to be able to make that Costa Rica trip! Boy, I need another job, because I so want to go! It would be fabulous to meet you all!

  8. Sara Emily Barker on July 1, 2015 at 12:17 pm

Oh, yeah, Marjie! This is what I’m talking about! Gosh, I love those bright colors, layered up over that white! There is just so much incredible depth to your pages! You rocked it! Thank you for selecting my FD card for Curiosity Crew’s Choice last time and for your kind words on my blog! I am so honored to be chosen; it’s a wonderful way to start the month! I know that choice was a very difficult one, as there were just so many great entries, so I’m humbled, too!

I have that exact same journal! – Or, at least I think I do – mine is full of Bristol paper. I’ve been using it to sketch and will go back and add color and backgrounds later. I love the size, don’t you?

Your work is always so bright and joyful; always know right away it’s yours. :)
