I traveled to California this month for the Craft & Hobby Association's Mega Show. What a fabulous experience!
It was great seeing so many people I already knew and also meeting many online friends and fellow crafters in person for the first time. Becoming a Designer Member of CHA last year allowed me to take advantage of over 10 hours of free workshops and networking events at the show. Topics included Contracts, Photoshop, Social Media and more. If you are building a creative business in this industry, you may want to consider CHA membership. In addition to the classes and events, I also spent a great many hours in the exhibit hall…. more on that in my next post.
And when I say fabulous, I mean it, but the beginning of the trip did have its challenges… my luggage was lost for 2 days, which was unpleasant to say the very least. Yet so many people offered to help me, and bring clothes in their suitcases for me (I arrived a few days pre-show to attend another event) that it ended up having a true silver lining in that sense. Thank you to all who offered help… it meant so much to me as many of us only knew one another through online groups, and yet you were all there ready to help.
I'm going to spread the trip recap over 3 photo-heavy posts, and each post will have a Giveaway. I'm sure many of you will recognize several of these faces:
My Ranger U Sistah Annette Greene made that gorgeous blue head for the Graphic 45 booth. It even has false eyelashes…. no details spared on that one. Thank you so much Annette for showing me around the G45 booth, especially all those fabulous samples made by you and Gentleman Jim.
Anita Houston, Cheryl Wood Grisby, Linda Ledbetter, Candy Colwell, me, and Susan Mostek. Anita and I were able to spend a day together last year, but this was the first time I met these other lovely ladies. It felt like we really did already know one another. Wish we'd had more time.
Everyone knows this gorgeous gal ~ Dyan Reaveley ~ who demo'd all day long in the Ranger booth. Love her! I was so glad to snag a hug and photo when we bumped into each other in the lobby.
After sitting down next to this lady in a class, I knew she looked familiar… once I saw her name tag I introduced myself… it's the very talented Meihsia Liu from the Simon Says Stamp design team.
Another Ranger U Sistah – Silvia Santoyo – all the way from Madrid, and with the biggest smile you can imagine. So great seeing her again… wish we lived closer!
First time meeting Ann Corbierre-Scott, my fellow Xyron design team member. We hit it off like we were thick as thieves.
Two new friends from the Prima ArtVenture Workshops – Roxane Stewart and Karen Bahit. We had a lot of fun in classes, and celebrated Karen's birthday as well.
Couldn't resist another pic with Linda and Candy. Two of the nicest gals ever.
So great to see Mario again! One of the nicest guys I've ever met. Today he was giving away one hundred (really) of Tim's newest dies…. the Frameworks honeycomb die. (I have Linda & Candy to thank for getting me on that line!) I love, love, LOVE this die and already know I will need to buy the others. You can check out a ScrapTime video here to see how the Frameworks dies work… they are unique and full of possibility. That Alterations catalog I am carrying is now fully marked and dog-eared.
New friend Johnnie Lanier, Anita Houston, me, France Papillon, and Amy Bowerman. We were at a blogger event put on by Fave Crafts/Prime Publishing. Several manufacturers set up tables to discuss their products and potential blogging opportunities, and serious goodie bags were shared. I've known Amy a long time and was glad she introduced me to Johnnie. Much more on France Papillon in the coming days… we've spent a lot of time together and had a wonderful time post-show here in New York.
If you've made it this far, today's giveaway was given to me by my friends at Ranger, and it's for one of their gorgeous aprons:
Open to all countries – I will ship anywhere (and have done so several times on previous giveaways).
To be in the running, just leave a comment on this page and “like” my Facebook business page if it's new to you. I am so appreciative that nearly 600 of you have already done that! If you want to receive updates when I add content to the Facebook page, you'll also need to hover over the “Liked” button and choose “get notifications.” I found that out recently when I realized I wasn't seeing any new posts from Kate Crane and a few other artists whose pages I knew I had “Liked” – sometimes Facebook decides which updates they send you, but choosing to “get notifications' will change that.
Thanks for reading and sticking with me through this long post. There are two more where that came from, and two more Giveaways coming as well.
I'll draw and annouce the winner for the Ranger Apron Giveaway in one week – on January 29, 2014.
