Stencil Hop with Nat Kalbach's Circuit Stencil

Stencil Hop - Art Journal - Rememner

This is an updated post from a 2013 blog hop I did showcasing the Circuit stencil Nathalie Kalbach designed for StencilGirl Products. When I first saw this on Nat's blog I knew it was a ‘must have' stencil. You can position those lines any which way to draw the eye around the page.   I kept thinking of pathways and roads when I was considering how to use the stencil, so I started by adhering an old map into my art journal. The lines of the map play nicely with Nat's cool design. I spritzed it with Dylusions Ink Spray (Vibrant…

Art Journal ~ Experiment (Tutorial)

Using stencils in your art journal (Marjie Kemper)

Do you ever take a break in your journal, when you really should be doing something else? I have quite a few things I should be doing today, but my journal was calling… and not even one of my small journals, this great big 9X 12 one.  I also decided to do a 2-page spread.  Talk about real estate.  So this spread measures 18″ wide by 12″ high… I should've done a canvas! This one started out very pink. I applied gesso to the pages and then added some paint, as well as modeling paste with stencils. Stamping on Tissue…

Art journaling with stamps and stencils (Marjie Kemper)

My Mojo has been on holiday lately.  Does that happen to you? I've been lucky that this is the first prolonged stretch where I've experience it. Believe me, it's not fun. I decided I simply had to sit down and push through.  If it Scares You… Here's how this page started… with a very vibrant green gelli print: After trying several things to no avail, I toned it down with some white paint.  I also used stencils and washi tape. Click here if you're interested in more projects with washi tape. Art Journal Stamps People frequently ask me what kinds…

A Trio of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)

A trio of artist trading cards with Distress Inks (Marjie Kemper)

Artist Trading Cards I really enjoy working on small surfaces such as artist trading cards. These cards measure 2.5″ X 3.5.”   Artist Trading Cards are mean to be shared but not sold.  Many ‘swap' groups exist where members made a certain number of ATCs, mail them to an organizer, and then receive a mix of other cards back in return. I started out with several of my favorite colors of Distress Ink and an ink blending tool.  I got carried away and forgot to take more process pictures! Basically I just add layers until I'm happy with the background.  You…

My Favorite Art Journaling Supplies

I'm frequently asked what my favorite are journaling supplies are, and what a person really needs to get started.   The simple answer is just a paper and pen, but the sky is the limit. You probably have enough laying around at home to make several pages right now. The beauty of art journaling is that anything goes. One man's trash is another man's treasure, and all of that. My Favorite Art Journaling Supplies I like to work in a variety of different journals.  They have different paper weights, so some are better for wet things like paint and gel medium,…
