Artist Trading Card with Distress Inks

Let me tell you how I made this one.

Artist Trading Card with Distress Inks - ATC Tutorial (Marjie Kemper)

I’ve been admiring the ATC challenge over at A Vintage Journey and decided this morning to sit down and have a play. Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are such fun to make. I enjoy working on these small surfaces. ATCs are just 2.5″ wide X 3″ tall. Since many stamps are scaled to this size, it’s a quick and easy project to undertake.

I decided some hot pinks and oranges mixed with purples and black might make a good color combo. After swiping some modeling paste through one of Tim’s stencils and letting it dry, I colored the paper with Distress Inks.  I love how fast it dries.

After laying more color and adding some background stamping and stenciling, I stamped my focal image (Umbrella Man) onto leftover packaging and ‘auditioned’ him.  By placing him on see-through paper, I could see if he fit on the ATC  before committing.

I used another bit of packaging to keep my stickers ‘sticky’ while I colored them with Distress Inks.
