Art journal with Tim Holtz Sizzix feather die and inkwell die (Marjie Kemper)

I saw a movie recently that touched on important messages from parents to children, which got me thinking about what I'd say if I had just one word of wisdom to impart. I didn't come up with it, yet…. but I'm thinking!  Love, Trust, and Patience are all in the running.

Sizzix diecuts

These are Tim Holtz's Sizzix dies (Block Type alphabet and Writing Desk – inkwell and feather) and the fountain pen is stamped and cut out.

Art journal with Tim Holtz Sizzix dies + Xyron Sticker Maker (Marjie Kemper)Xyron Adhesive

I used my Xyron® 3” Sticker Maker to adhere the ink well, feather, and letters to the page.  The journal is new to me. It's an 8″ square version of the Global Arts Watercolor Book I use frequently.  I really like this new size a lot.  The background is done with Golden Paints and Ranger Inks, along with stamps and stencils.

StencilGirl Stencils

I like the way the gridlines from MaryBeth Shaw's Squared On stencil are barely visible. I started out with the whole page in a grid format. Next, I painted over much of it to leave only some of the lines visible.  I think the lines are sort of mysterious as they fade in/out of the background. I'm linking to to this week's theme at Simon Says Stamp.

Hey, Marjie! Life has been topsy turvey this month, but I had to pop over and see what you’ve been up to. This piece is wonderful. Love the colors and the beautifully layered background. I want to watch you do this sometime! That white feather just pops off the page and the black elements anchor the piece so nicely. Love your work! Love you! Happy Thanksgiving!

I just love how your background stamping is so…well, background…it’s difficult to achieve that look (for me)…very nice.

I love this page, Marjie! It appeals to be on so many different levels. I think basically, I must have been a writer on a previous life (ha!) because I so love it now. My family calls me the Grammar Queen (or worse)! Beyond that, I love all the texture and, therefore, interest in the background–including the gridlines surfacing here and there. Ah, but, then, there are the pen, quill and ink to speak to me! I think this has to be one of my all-time favorite Marjie pieces!!

Beautiful work. Hard to break wisdom down to one piece. Think for my girls, it would be to seek joy, especially when life is ugly.

Hi Marjie. I have been AWOL from doing alot of blog surfing recently and am sure I’ve missed out on all kinds of fabulous stuff. :) I wanted to thank you for your sweet comment you left on my blog about my mystery piece. I also wanted to leave a comment for you on your very cute tag. It has been so fun to watch your growth as an artist since we met online a few years ago. I so love your art journaling and how you’ve really taken flight with that. You do such a fabulous job of layering different elements to create such gorgeous pieces. <3 Candy
