Art Journaling Tutorial ~ Soar
Soar
Hello, and thanks for the visit! This Soar art journal page came together as I built up layers of paint and ink (mostly paint).
Dry Embossing
Then I ran the stenciled tag through my Vagabond die-cutting machine with a hot air balloon embossing folder:
Next I inked up the raised areas from the embossing folder:
After I adhered the tag to the page, I waited a bit to decide what else I wanted to add.
Stenciling
I used a DecoArt stencil to add the title word:
I also added some stamping and additional stenciling with black ink:
Mixed Media Art Membership Group
Have you heard about the Mixed Media Art Membership Group? It's a monthly membership that I host that includes facilitated learning through a Project of the Month (with closed-captioned video instruction), Themed Challenge of the Month, a live Zoom Create-Along Session where we all work on our art together, and lots of resources such as the Project Vault, Technique Vault and Resource Library. Best of all is the supportive and inspiring community we enjoy in our private Facebook Group and the gated private forum on the site where I host the videos and resources.
The group is only open for new members a few times a year, so please add your name to the waiting list to be the first to know when the doors open again. Click here to add your name to the waiting list.

lovely! how did you manage to ink only the embossed portion of the image? I would have made an inky mess!
Thanks, Wanda. I gently ran the ink pad directly over the raised areas. It takes a little practice and a light hand. Give it a shot!
YOu are so good with a dauber, love these greens and blues. xox
Fabulous page, Marjie! Love the colors and added tag to the page! Happy Weekend!
Beautiful! I gave my very good friend your class at Craftsy as a Christmas gift. She is going to love it.
Love, love! I signed up for your class over at Craftsy – will work on it this week-end.
I like the way you incorporated the tag onto this page. Great colours.

Love the balloon and the tag looks wonderful on your journal page – gorgeous colours too! Anne xx
I love the balloon tag and how it blended. Before reading your tutorial I wondered how you made a transparent tag! ha ha. Who made the hot air balloon embossing folder? Great work!
Hi, Sharon – I’m traveling right now but I will get back to you on that as soon as I’m home and can check the manufacturer name.
Hi, Sharon – the folder is by Couture Creations and it’s called Ascension.
Such a great idea using the embossing folder balloon on the tag – it does look like it’s soaring over land and sea!! And who’s to say what direction??? No one – it’s FREE and EASY and FUN. Super creation Marjie!!! XO j.
Gorgeous! LOVING those balloons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are always soaring! xox
Stunning! Love the blue and yellow/green colour palette! So clever also what you did with the tag, love how the embossing came out!
