Art Journaling ~ Try

Kemperjournal072013

This busy page was fun to make and I was out of my element on colors, so a bit of a challenge as well.

I started by cutting a 12X12 piece of  paper into strips, taping it to my craft mat, and applying gesso through a stencil.

After it dried overnight, I sprayed the papers with Dylusions Ink Sprays (these colors plus Chocolate Brown).

I ran the strips through my Xyron® 9” Creative Station and diecut Sizzix hearts and letters from them.

The Xyron® 1.5” Create-a-Sticker was perfect for putting adhesive onto my letters and small hearts.

For the background, I tore a page from an old book which I ran through the Xyron® 9” Creative Station.

I applied  Distress Paints to the background and spritzed Julie Balzer’s sentiment stencil with black Dylusions Ink Spray.

I wanted Julie’s words to pop some more  I so wrote over them a few times with black marker and added some splats of pink paint.  I also used one of Dyan Reaveley’s border stamps on some of the edges.

I really like the dimension from the gesso on the accent pieces.  Many thanks for the visit today!

  6. I love this page. You’d never know you felt out of your element by looking at this page. The colors are fun, and I love all the texture and elements. I really need to look more closely at that Xyron 9 Creative Station. That whole Xyron set up is very very cool. As usual I enjoyed your post. (((HUGS)))

  7. This is just so gorgeous!!! So many nice ‘features and elements’ to it. Beautiful colors too! I’ve been seeing it all over between facebook and various pinners on pinterest and I love it more every time I see it. After reading your steps, I know you had a ball creating it. I won the sentiment stencil a while back as a door prize in a class I attended so I’ll have to get it out to play. Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. Fantastic page Marjie! I love those hot colours! x

  12. Wow, so cool the way you created the base for the letters and hearts. And the way you applied the colors and especially the black, I would be terrified – sure that I was spoiling all my previous work. Yours came out fantastic. Terrific art journal page!

    Hugs,
    Linda

  13. You know something? I bought that stencil earlier this year I think, but I haven’t used it yet. I wonder why? Hmmmmm? Maybe I don’t believe I can yet or something. I try and try, but I just can’t seem to make those nice looking journal pages yet. I just don’t seem to know what to put on that page! I must have lost my muse or something. Anyway, that’s a gorgeous journal page, and I love those colors. I keep thinking that one day I’ll have some kind of epiphany or breakthrough, and that first beautiful journal page will be staring right back at me. My dream is to one day have something published in the Journaling magazine.

  14. I love the way your hearts came out – so much fun but not having one of these fancy machines, I hate to say it but I got completely lost!! Really neat journal page!
