Art Journaling ~ Metamorphosis

Kemper art journal 07242014

I had a lovely day with my three sisters on Monday ~ a rarity given we live in different states.  We had lunch, walked around, and did a bit of shopping (must do our part for the economy!)  I purchased a small tray that had this sentiment on it, and when I got home the new Tim Holtz layered butterfly die had arrived, so it seemed like a no brainer that the two would go together in my art journal.  This is a large journal (9 X12) so I had plenty of space for all the writing.

The die is gorgeous and it comes with an embossing folder that adds tremendous detail.  I used a variety of Ranger Distress Inks to color it.

I sanded my Alpha Tiles to expose the white core, than added some pink Distress Ink to brighten them up a bit. This was the first time I used them and I was quite happy to see 255 pieces come in the package!

I had a bit of a mishap when writing directly on the page, so I diecut a styled label to cover my gaffe.  I used the stencils to color the diecut piece so it would blend into the page.

Stencils are from Tim Holtz and Stencil Girl Products, and the little antennae are Maya Road pins.  I’m not sure where the tiny tickets and tiny butterflies came from… somewhere in my stash.

I also wanted to mention in just two months I’ll be teaching at Kept Creations in Whitman, Massachusetts.  I have the weekend of September 19-21 lined up with three classes including this brand new one using Tim Holtz’s Collection Folio:

Your comments are very much appreciated!

  1. I absolutely love this! It is summer captured on a page. It reminds me of laying in the soft green grass and looking up at the sky through the leaf canopy….takes me right back to the summers of my childhood. It’s magical!

  2. Beautiful art journal page Marjie! That butterfly is gorgeous!

  3. I really DO like your journaling work! So colorful! Question: Can journaling this way be sort of another take on scrapbooking one’s life? Albeit SO much more colorful and eye-catching!

Thanks, Robin. My thought is yes… absolutely! A very good way to look at it, in my opinion. Many people get put off by scrapbooks but art journaling is a much more ‘free’ way of documenting things.

  4. Gorgeous page, Marjie! Love the soft colors, and the butterfly is so pretty! Love the folio too! Looks like an amazing class! Hugs, Sandra
