Art Journaling with Inchies Tutorial
Art Journaling with Inchies
Inchies are 1″ squares that can be used singly or as part of a large project. Believe it or not, their ‘cousins' are called twinchies. I can't make this stuff up! Check out this Pinterest Board devoted to Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), Inchies, and Twinchies.
My friends at Creative Carte Blanche have launched a brand new challenge blog and the first challenge is to try something you've never done before. I've always been drawn to inchies (1″ square pieces of art… tiny real estate!) but have never given them a try. So here's something ‘new to me.'
Blotter Paper = Inchie Heaven
I started out with a 12″ piece of manila cardstock. I'd used this as a blotter on art journal pages previously sprayed with Dylusions Ink Sprays. That's why the colors are a bit faint – they were a second impression, rather than a full-on spray.
I used a 1″ square punch to quickly cut all my pieces.
Old School Art Supplies ~ Paper Punches & Wood Stamps
I went ‘old school' and got out some very old wood-mount stamps. These haven't seen the light of day for a long time, which reminds me to look through all my drawers now and then!
And then the fun began with lots of other stamps, stencils, and ink.
I ran all the Inchies through my Xyron machine using a re-positionable adhesive so I could lift the pieces up again and again as I sorted out my grid. It was fun and sure is different for me. Why not pop over to Creative Carte Blanche and try something new?
Mixed Media Art Membership Group
Have you heard about the Mixed Media Art Membership Group? It's a monthly membership that I host that includes facilitated learning through a Project of the Month (with closed-captioned video instruction), Themed Challenge of the Month, a live Zoom Create-Along Session where we all work on our art together, and lots of resources such as the Project Vault, Technique Vault and Resource Library. Best of all is the supportive and inspiring community we enjoy in our private Facebook Group and the gated private forum on the site where I host the videos and resources.
The group is only open for new members a few times a year, so please add your name to the waiting list to be the first to know when the doors open again. Click here to add your name to the waiting list.
