Art Journal Travel Page

Kemperjournal5312013

I had a lot of fun making this page. I’d seen the current challenge at Frilly & Funkie which is a travel theme with a window, and I knew I’d love to use my Darkroom Door Window Frame stamp. Next decisions was else to do… I pulled out a map as my background, glued it into my journal, and gave it a wash with a mix of acrylic paint and glazing liquid.

I stamped my window frame on tan tissue paper, intending to adhere it with gel medium, but it seemed like it might melt into that background a bit more than I’d like, so I stamped it again on clear packaging.

That’s more what I had in mind. And then I remembered reading on France’s blog a few days ago about a Stampotique challenge to use something transparent.  Seems meant to be.  I’ll save that tissue-stamped window for another day.

The signpost is a Stampers Anonymous stamp.  I stamped it, cut it out, and colored it with Distress Stains and a waterbrush.  Then I added in a whole bunch of Bucket List places.

I didn’t get a good impression when I stamped that long travel border stamp (Aladine) so I took some of the extra acrylic glaze, painted a tag, and stamped what I needed again on top of it.

I cut out the word travel and adhered it to my page.

The word Journey comes from Tim Holtz’s Remnant Rubs. I thought it went really well with the map background and the word “Travel” on the border stamp.  The other word, Wander, was cut using the Sizzix Alphabetical die and my Vagabond (which brings me to Lisa Somerville’s Bloggers Challenge – dies).

I had an extra Sizzix Pediment on my table from when I did this project a few days ago, and it fits perfectly on top of my window. I just painted it black and adhered with redline tape.  After some stenciling with Jet Black archival ink, I called it done.

I’ll also link to Art Journal Every Day and Stampotique SDC102.  Thanks so much for the visit!

  39. Marjie you are amazing. This truly is a work of art. Having poured over the details several times it has given me a list of ‘things to try’ (and ‘things to buy’!!) LOVE that window and it’ll be interesting to see what you end up doing with the tissue version. LOVE the way you altered the map so that it has so much more colour and pattern to it. And LOVE the way you overcame the issue of getting the travel sentiment to stand out more against the border. Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this with us. Hugs, Jenny x
