Art Journal: Relax

Relax art journaling spread with birds (Marjie Kemper)
Simon Says Stamp and Show is looking for ‘something messy' this weekend, and that's my middle name when it comes to spray inks.  I love having inky fingers and have to remember when I teach a class to offer gloves to those who feel differently.  I was drawn to the birds challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges so I made some trees for these little ones to perch on.  The trees are gesso through a stencil:

I had a rough day today starting with a fall on the ice in the driveway and ending with a speeding ticket (42 in a 30!).  When I came home to finish this page I decided the message to myself should be RELAX.  Or as the officer said, “Slow down, Ma'am.”

Thanks for the visit!  Please sign up for my newsletter or find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, or Twitter.

ohh, so sorry to hear you fell. Hope you’re okay, and then a speeding ticket on top of that. Not a fun day indeed! But your pages are super! Ouch! Falling on the ice is not fun. Hope you are not sore tomorrow! Getting a ticket is not fun, either. I love this page…the blue is so dreamy and soft…like a twilight sky, which is my favorite time of day. The white branches are striking, and the birds roosting gives the page a cozy feel. You are so good at creating a mood in your art, Marjie…it’s wonderful!

  19. Julie G. on February 13, 2013 at 2:04 pm

What a perfect title for this page! I was instantly transported to a big comfy chair on the deck as dusk settled in around me and the birds settle in the trees for the night. Beautiful!

  20. Alie Hoogenboezem-de Vries on February 13, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Great gesso trees on these pages…the background is very interesting Marjie and the word Relax…yeahhh I agree :-)

Curve balls are going to come your way but good for you on batting them away. Not only did you relax yourself, I’ve just sat and indulged myself in a few minutes just looking at this as it is truly relaxing. Whether it’s the depth of colour, the composition or the word itself this should be on the wall at every meditation class across the world. Truly you at your best Marjie. Hugs, Jenny xx

  22. Willy on February 13, 2013 at 11:28 am

  47. Carolyn Dube on February 12, 2013 at 6:15 pm

A speeding ticket- ouch! No wonder you picked such calming blues to do the page in! Love the dimension to the trees! 42 in a 30 isn’t really speeding is it? That is just keeping up with traffic!

  48. Lorraine aka grannypoppy on February 12, 2013 at 6:10 pm

Sorry to hear about your rough start to the day … but it obviously got better because look at this gorgeous page you’ve created! I love it. The colours, the script the black and white .. everything speaks to me and I love it!

  49. Candy Colwell on February 12, 2013 at 5:57 pm

I’ve heard the old saying that life imitates art! I guess sometimes art imitates life too, huh? Sorry that you got the speeding ticket! That sucks. But at least some gorgeous art journal pages were born out of it. :) I love your deep blue backgrounds with the very cool stenciling and ghosted images. I also love the icy tree and the script writing in black. That really looks amazing against the blue background. Thanks for sharing your beautiful art with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy

  50. Susan on February 12, 2013 at 5:11 pm

    A very soothing page……

  51. Jessica Sporn on February 12, 2013 at 4:59 pm

oooh – I hope your back is ok. and sounds like good advice from the officer, as well as your muse. Love your inky page and those birds. I especially like how you perched them on the stamped writing. Your words, “Relax,” are perfect for Carolyn’s “Use Your Words” class too! Beautiful, serene blues. xo
