Art is You Recap (2015)
I’m home a week now from Art Is You Mixed Media Art Retreat and I’ve finally gone through all my photos. I’ve written about Art Is You so many times, I’ll spare you the gushing post (but if you want to read more, click here or here or here or here). Since it’s a long event, I have quite a lot of pics – you may want a cup of tea with this one!
I taught Art Journaling: Building Backgrounds, Art Journaling: Faces & Figures, and Tantalizing Techniques Assemblage. I was thrilled to see everyone take the ideas as mere suggestions and create art in their own style and taste. Here’s a sampling:
Some of these brave souls took more than one class with me… thank you for your trust and your time, ladies!
Here are some group shots from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday:
I always like to take a lot of shots of hands in action, but I only got a few this time:
Of course there were lots of shenanigans outside the classroom as well. It was great fun to see so many friends and to make new ones. One of my online friends ended up being my next door neighbor in the hotel… it IS a small world after all.
I learned a lot about bezels, ice resin and torches in Jen Crossley’s class (fantastic – and I am hooked!). I’ve wanted to try my hand at stamp carving for a long while and it was great to learn how from Kari McKnight Holbook. There were all sorts of tips and tricks Kari shared that honestly never would have occurred to me. I don’t know if I really have the patience to carve my own stamps, but I’m sure glad I know how!
And that’s another Art Is You wrap-up from me. I’m delighted to share that I’ll be teaching three workshops again at Art Is You in Stamford, CT next year. For now, please save the dates ~ October 6-10, 2016.
If Stamford’s out of your way, please know Art Is You also has events in Minneapolis, California, and Australia. You’ll find all the new info soon on the Art Is You website.
Thanks for the visit! If we’re not already connected, please sign up for my newsletter or find me on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, or Twitter.

Fantastic Marjie! I would really love to attend AIY one day. I’m getting very close to retiring from work so I think this could become a reality.like you I adore Jen Crossley’s work. I purchased her video class on etched metal books. I’ve made two books and absolutely love the technique. It would be so great to meet her and the many other talented artists, yourself included, of course! So attending AIY is now part of my life plan!!!! Thanks for the inspiration! P.S I’ve also purchased your Craftsy Class and love it .best wishes to you Toni xx
This looks amazing fun, marjie, and it looks like your ladies made wonderful and original art at your classes. Lucky ladies,
