Art-Is-You 2013 Recap – Part 1 of 2

Let me tell you, Art-Is-You was fantastic again this year.  I had so much fun meeting new friends and spending time with ‘old' ones, relaxing and creating…  I'm totally revved up to use my new skills in my own work.

The photo above is me with Carolyn Dube, Jessica Sporn, and Judy Shea at one of the lunches.  The food is wonderful at AIY ~ breakfast and lunch are included and there are always delicious hot and cold choices.  This next shot is at an event that evening.  You might notice we seem a tad more rowdy.

In addition, we have Maria McGuire, my sister Fern, Kirsten Reed singing into the paintbrush, and Barbara Kessler, the wonderfully talented singer/songwriter who performed that evening.  I was soooo happy my sister flew in from Indiana for her very first art retreat. I've got a pretty good feeling she'll be back in 2014!

The class that excited me most was Kecia and Jane's Home is Where the Heart Is class.  It was two full days of collage and soldering to create a really cool 12″ high glass house.  I used family photos for mine and I am so happy with the way it turned out.

I had great tablemates – Lorraine, Francine, and Dawn. Here are Francine and Dawn.  Dawn Gold came all the way from England for Art-Is-You and it was lovely getting to know her.

And here's my finished house.  The walls aren't all straight, and there are parts I need to go in and smooth out, but I'm very happy with my first attempt at soldering.  I will go ahead and embellish it soon.  I was lucky to win a giveway from Kecia & Jane and I have oodles of metal bits and bobs to attach when time allows.

Kecia and Jane are wonderful teachers and really kept us all on task so that every student walked out with a finished project.  They will be offering this class online next year as well.

Thanks so much for the visit.  I'll be back this Thursday with a new project for a stencil hop between Xyron & StencilGirl, and will have more on my other classes at Art-Is-You next week.

Marjie you have no idea how much I would want to have participated in this as soldering is something I have tried (briefly, as in only once, bought a soldering iron and tried to bluff my way through it) and to master soldering is top of my To Do List. To have a house such as this as the end result is awe inspiring.
2014 I aim to bring out that soldering iron and try, try and try some more.
