Apron Project for Australian Women’s Shelter

A few months ago, Sallianne McClelland (one of the two amazing creators of the Art Is You Mixed Media Retreats, put out a call to the art community about an idea she had to do a fundraiser for a women’s shelter near and dear to her in Australia.

It’s called the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Women’s Shelter, and you can read an article about Sal and her idea here in the Daily Telegraph.

Altered Apron - Australia Shelter Project

So guess what happened? Forty people answered Sal’s call and created one-of-a-kind artsy aprons for her auction!  That’s Sal (left) with some of the aprons:

Wouldn’t you love to be there and see these in person? I sure would.

Apron Project - Australia

I was one of those who said yes, but I’m crushed to tell you my apron hasn’t yet arrived in Australia. It was due to get there on August 5 and has yet to surface. I’m disappointed but I know I’m with them in spirit and fingers and toes are crossed it will get there any second. (Update: Life is Good and the apron arrived just in the nick of time, the day before the auction!!)  Here’s what mine looks like:

The Apron Project - Marjie Kemper

The silent auction is going on now and the live one takes place August 15th. At the time I am writing this, they have already raised over $4,000 for the shelter. Amazing! And all because one person had an idea and acted on it, and others responded in kind. How beautiful!

If you’d like to register to bid on any of the aprons, this is the site. It’s quick and easy ~ they text a password straight to your mobile device in a matter of seconds.

Thanks for visiting.  Let’s keep in touch on social: Facebook, Pinterest, InstagramYouTube, or Twitter or subscribe to my newsletter for a discount to my online mixed media class.

PS – Doing for others is nothing new to Art Is You – there is always a featured charity for which funds are raised at every event.
