Abstract Lessons

Abstract Painting

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of taking art classes at Art & Soul Retreat in Virginia.  It was delightful, and I thought I'd share one of my paintings today.

Abstract painting workshop project

I made this in a class taught by Jacqueline Sullivan.   Out of respect for her, I won't share the technique.  I'll just say that I enjoyed every moment of it.  It had been way too long since I'd had a day of creative exploration.  I'm vowing to myself that I need to mark time on the calendar for just this sort of play, on a much more regular basis.

How often do you find or make time for creative play?  Do you get on a roll with it, and have lots of creative time in a row?  Or do you have long dry spells that frustrate you? Spending the whole day working on abstract painting was a joy for me.

Free Facebook Group

You might enjoy my free Facebook Group.  It's called Half and Hour of Art, and it's been open for nearly three years.  We are an enthusiastic bunch of people who encourage one another to make time to be creative each month.  The goal is #halfanhourofart per month, but honestly….. once you start making something, you usually want to keep going. Your single half hour sit-down will likely lead to more over the course of the month.

It's a really positive community where you can get a nudge to explore your creative interests.  Our interests are very diverse, from mixed media art to drawing, abstract painting to stamping, knitting to soap making, jewelry making to card making, etc. Feel free to join us.  When you reach the group page, you'll see a couple of quick questions to make sure you're not a robot, and then I'll approve you.

Free group for those wishing to create art more frequently

Cheers to all of us making time for creativity, and for encouraging others to do the same!

Amazing colours and texture within the paint layers. So much drama and energy too – it’s wonderful. Great to see you finding time to play and explore creatively.
